The church of Ronco, separated from the parish of Campiglia in 1280, reflects a millennial history. Patronized by the Counts of Valperga, the current building, dating back to renovations between 1809 and 1887, features an imposing facade, an interior with a single nave and works of art, including an altarpiece from 1639 by Andreas Bugellensis.
The church of Ronco has a rich and interesting history, spanning centuries in the context of the Val Soana.
Its separation from the parish of Campiglia in 1280 indicates a growing importance of the local religious community.
The mention of Don Pietro Bruno as the holder of the parish in 1281 provides an indication of the early ecclesiastical leaders of the area.
The pastoral visit of 1329 provides a more detailed view of the church of Ronco, indicating its patronage under the Counts of Valperga and confirming its denomination as "Ecclesia Sancti Iusti da Valsoana".
This documented event provides a window into the historical and social context of the church at that time.
The numerous renovations between 1809 and 1887 have shaped the current appearance of the church, with its stone structure and slate roof.
The stone columns supporting the atrium in front of the entrance contribute to the grandeur of the building.
The facade with its three doors and sculptures is another noteworthy feature, along with the semicircular windows on the side walls.
The interior of the church features a single nave and a stone slab floor.
The main altar, with its wooden statues of St.
John the Baptist and St.
Justus, represents an important work of art.
The side altars, each with a valuable altarpiece, add to the artistic richness of the church, with particular mention of the altarpiece signed by Andreas Bugellensis in 1639.
The statuary triptych representing the crucifixion on the arch of the apse is another significant element of the church's interior design.
